Royal Palace Museum Of Asian Arts
The Royal Palace Museum of Asian Art is one of the most important of its kind in Europe. The museum was founded in 1927 after the donation of many great items by Gregorios Manos. In 1967, the Palace was given to the Municipality of Corfu and housed the Archaeological Museum for some years and until 1974, it worked as a Sino-Japanese Museum.
The Museum of Asian Art is located in the Royal Palace at the Palea Anactora - complex and is open daily except on Mondays. The museum exhibits the items from 11BC and includes pottery, art, sculpture, porcelain, furnishings and more. Approximately 10000 items originate from China and Japan, the remaining 1000 or so are from the rest of Asia.
In the Museum the hall of the Ionian Senate can be visited and old furniture, the portraits of the presidents of the Senate and other items have been preserved. Several valuable paintings decorate the walls and on the rest of the rooms, the Asiatic collection is exhibited.
